TDC Net expands eco-footprint with four solar farms

Jul 06, 2021 | Posted by Eric Advinci

TDC Net, the Danish telecoms firm, has announced that it is moving forward with four new solar parks. This comes following TDC Net signing a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Better Energy. By 2023, the four farms will be capable of supplying 140GWh of energy each year.

By 2028, the company pledges to be carbon neutral, and this move will push it towards a more sustainable future, supplying around 60% of its energy consumption. Andreas Pfisterer, CEO of TDC Net, says that these solar parks demonstrate the company's commitment to "social responsibility" and a show of support for the vision of a fossil-free Danish society. This dedication to renewable energy comes in spite of an expected 2.5 surge in power consumption in the next seven years as a result of customer data consumption.

Better Energy CEO Rasmus Lildholdt Kjær added: "TDC Net is building the infrastructure of the future, and it is clear that it must be operated with sustainable, fossil-free, Danish-produced electricity. There has been a minor revolution in solar power in recent years, and it is both gratifying and wise of TDC Net that they think solar power into the company's sustainability work."

Two of the farms are set to be located on the island of Funen, in Svendborg and Nørre Aaby. Meanwhile, the additional two will be based in Jutland. The first will be operational early next year.

There are 55 data centers in Denmark.
